New Virginia law drops fees for diagnostic breast exams
It’s about to get a little easier to pay for a mammogram.
On Jan. 1, a new law enacted by the Virginia legislature goes into effect, prohibiting public health insurance providers from imposing cost-sharing requirements — such as copayments and deductibles — for diagnostic breast exams, ultrasounds and MRIs.
The law will apply only to health care services regulated by the state of Virginia, such as Medicaid and plans bought through the Virginia Health Marketplace.
